Train and Up-Skill Your Staff Under the Australian Apprenticeship Program

What is an Australian Apprenticeship?

The Australian Apprenticeship Program is aimed at developing a more skilled Australian workforce that delivers long-term benefits for our nation and our international competitiveness. This is achieved by encouraging employers to open up genuine opportunities for skills-based training of their employees, through provision by the Australian Government of financial incentives to employers who employ and train an Australian Apprentice (apprentice or trainee).

There are over 1000 qualifications available nationally tailored to offer a range of occupational outcomes to meet the needs of Australia's workforce.

What can an Australian Apprenticeship do for your business?

  • Increase retention and improve productivity
  • Retrain existing staff
  • Reduce staff turn over by providing them with a career
  • Address skills shortages
  • Motivate and inspire staff

What incentives can an employer of an Australian Apprentice attract?

Employers may attract the standard commencement incentive of $1,500 for an Australian Apprentice undertaking a Certificate III, IV or Diploma or Advanced Diploma level qualification.  In addition, employers may be eligible to receive the standard completion incentive of $2,500 for an Australian Apprentice who successfully completes a Certificate III, IV or Diploma or Advanced Diploma level qualification.

There are some restrictions around expected/nominal durations for some qualifications whereby the qualification may only be open to new entrants (being part time employees employed less than 12 months or full time employees working less than 3 months). Please contact your nominated SRAS consultant to learn more about what qualifications apply.

Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas that are recognised as an Australian Apprenticeship have fewer restrictions around expected/nominal durations.  Meaning that employers can continually up-skill their employees even though they have already completed a Cert III or Cert IV before and may receive an additional $4000 to do so.

Employers of Australian Apprentices may also attract a range of additional and special incentives.
